Zelensky summoned Putin for a personal meeting: what is known

Zelensky called for a meeting of leaders to end the war and backed Trump's efforts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that a summit meeting between the leaders of the countries is needed to stop Russian aggression and establish sustainable peace. This is how he commented on Vladimir Putin's recent statements.
According to the head of state, Ukraine welcomes the efforts of US President Donald Trump to end the war and stop killing, as well as to achieve a dignified and lasting peace.
If the statements from Russia are really a signal of readiness to end the war and not an attempt to buy time and avoid sanctions, Ukraine confirms its readiness to meet the leaders at any time," Zelensky emphasised.
He also noted that Kiev understands well who in Russia makes decisions and who is responsible for ending the war.
The world also realises this. Ukraine proposes to move from words and technical contacts to direct dialogue at the level of leaders. America has already put forward such a proposal, and we support it. Now it is up to Russia," the president added.
In addition, Zelenskyy reported a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The parties discussed interaction with the US and possible formats for peace talks, including Trump's participation. They also talked about the coordination of diplomatic efforts on the eve of international events in Europe and America.
Earlier it was reported that Donald Trump, expressing disappointment with Putin's actions, reduced the deadline given to Russia to demonstrate readiness for peace - from 50 to 10 days, that is, until 8 August. He threatened new sanctions and secondary tariffs for countries that continue to buy Russian energy. Trump noted that despite "polite conversations," Moscow is not stopping missile strikes on Ukraine.
