Ukrainian marines have completed six months of training in the UK. They were trained to conduct raids and complex military operations.

This was reported by the press service of the British Royal Navy.

The Royal Marines have spent more than six months training almost 1,000 Ukrainian colleagues in the art of sabotage raids and complex landing operations," the statement said.

In particular, instructors from British commandos passed on invaluable experience in how to plan and conduct raids using small boats by day and night.

Each training group underwent a rigorous programme that developed individual skills including field survival, battlefield first aid, close combat and physical fitness.

It is emphasised that the training will further support Ukraine's ability to develop its own maritime forces and the international concept of training marines.

The Ukrainian Marines underwent the course, which included training in the use of mortars, new-generation NLAW light anti-tank weapons and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, reconnaissance drones and explosive obstacle demolition such as Dragon's Teeth anti-vehicle vehicles.

The equipment used in the exercise was reportedly identical to the military support the UK has provided to Ukraine, such as more than 10,000 anti-tank weapons, including thousands of NLAW systems already delivered.

The training was delivered by instructors from 42 Commando and 47 Commando Raid Group, as well as Army Commandos from 24 Commando Engineers and Royal Artillery artillerymen from 29 Commandos.

"The UK is leading the way in training the Ukrainian Armed Forces, providing world-leading frontline combat skills training to more than 20,000 Ukrainian Army recruits as part of Operation Interflex," said UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.

Since the start of 2022, more than 20,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel have already trained in the UK, learning essential frontline skills including trench and urban warfare and medical training.
