Trump has said he could end the war next week

US President Donald Trump's team has said he is very confident in his ability to strike a deal with Russia to end the "conflict" in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump expects to secure a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine in the coming week, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt has said.
She said the White House chief sees Moscow's willingness to make concessions and that his national security adviser Michael Waltz "will be working around the clock all weekend to make sure peace comes as soon as possible."
Livitt pointed out that at the same time, U.S. Treasury Department head Scott Bessent continues to discuss a minerals agreement with Ukraine, which is seen as part of the security guarantees.
The president, his team is very focused on continuing to negotiate with both sides of this war to end it. And the president is very confident that we can do that this week," said Leavitt.
When it comes to critical minerals, this is no small part. It's very important to the president because it's going to pay off American tax dollars. And it will also be a great economic partnership between the U.S. and the Ukrainian people, and they will rebuild their country after this brutal war," the White House speaker added.
She clarified that Trump's goal is to stop the loss of life in Ukraine.
As The Hill points out , these comments came after Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "does not have any cards up his sleeve", so he should allegedly postpone talks with international leaders regarding further peace talks.
