Poland has detained teenagers suspected of desecrating a monument to the victims of the Volyn tragedy and other provocations ordered by Russian security services.

According to the investigation, the purpose of such actions was to increase tension in relations between Poland and Ukraine. According to Polish Interior Ministry spokesman Jacek Dobrzyński, a 17-year-old teenager painted Bandera flags and slogans promoting Nazi ideology on buildings and monuments.

One of the incidents took place in Domostawa village, where the inscription "Glory to the UPA" and a red and black flag appeared on a monument to the victims of the Volyn tragedy. Similar actions were also recorded in Wrocław and Warsaw.

Although Dobrzyński spoke of detaining one Ukrainian, police clarified that they were talking about two 17-year-old Ukrainian citizens. Investigators believe they displayed flags and slogans praising Stepan Bandera at sites related to the memory of the Volhynia tragedy.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that such provocations are often organised by foreign special services, primarily Russian, which seek to quarrel Poland and Ukraine. According to him, the Russians rarely recruit Poles, but actively use Ukrainians and Belarusians, paying them money for subversive actions.

Tusk emphasised that this is not the first such case and called the actions "very well thought-out". He noted that in addition to undermining public order, such actions are aimed at fuelling conflicts between nations.

The incident took place against the background of the fact that Poland continues to provide Ukraine with military and political support, while a logistics hub for arms supplies operates on its territory.
