Romania will soon not be NATO's eastern border, it will shift east.

In the coming years, the North Atlantic Alliance will expand and its border will shift to the east. This was stated by NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joane, quoted by Ziua de Vest.

He made this statement during the presentation of his book "The Battle for Romania's Future. Thoughts of a Romanian at the top of NATO".

At the same time, he said that he is convinced that Romania will soon not be the eastern border of NATO, because the borders of the Alliance will move eastwards.

Therefore, it is time for Romania to finally escape from the periphery of Europe and put itself in the centre of Europe in terms of importance," the deputy secretary-general said.

He also stressed that in the coming years, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the Western Balkans will become part of the European community and then members of the Euro-Atlantic alliance.

Speaking about the current situation in Europe, Mircea said that it was complicated, at the same time, he positively assessed the work of NATO and noted the leading role of the organisation in countering Russian aggression.
