Russia could attack the submarine energy and communication lines of Western countries.

This was reported by Sky News, citing British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.

Wallace said Russia has the "intention and capability" to attack submarine energy and communication lines of Western countries.

We know the Russians have a working programme, they have a special naval programme aimed at finding and potentially sabotaging or attacking critical national infrastructure belonging to their adversaries.

The minister added that the UK should be able to defend itself and such infrastructure.

It is worth noting that European states have had a heated debate on underwater security following the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. Investigations by teams from Sweden, Denmark and Germany into who was behind the bombings in the Baltic Sea are still ongoing.
