He also spoke out about the tragedy in Bucha. The mayor believes that Russia, Ukraine and the USA are all responsible for it.

The mayor of the Latvian city of Daugavpils, Andrejs Elksnins, said so in an interview with the Latvian portal Delfi. Daugavpils is the second largest city in Latvia. The official also avoided answering direct questions about the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.

Elksnins only replied that he had no hopes of victory for Ukraine or Russia and that "there are no simple answers." According to Delfi, Elksnins repeated four times that there will be no winners in this war, that it is a tragedy, he said

There is a war going on in Ukraine - that is clear and self-evident, Russia is not at war on its territory - that is also clear and self-evident.

Regarding the belonging of Crimea, the Mayor of Daugavpils responded that Crimea was part of the Russian Federation. And even after commenting that almost the entire international community had not recognised the occupation of the peninsula, he remarked that this was true, but it was impossible to separate the facts that Crimea was incorporated into the Russian Federation and that the whole world continued to cooperate with Russia after that.

He also spoke about the tragedy in Bucha. The mayor believes that both Russia, Ukraine and the USA are responsible for it.

It is worth noting that the city of Daugavpils in Latvia is one of the most densely populated regions by Russians. It was due to the city's pro-Russian audience that Elksnins won the election
