Germany has become Ukraine's leading trade partner

Promising areas for German business: Ukraine's reconstruction, defence, energy, IT and digitalisation.
Ukraine has become Germany's most important trade partner in Eastern Europe by the end of 2024, surpassing Russia for the first time in terms of trade turnover. This was reported by Vitaliy Ivashchuk, economic adviser at the Ukrainian embassy in Berlin, referring to the official statistics of the German agency Destatis, UkrInform reported.
For the first time since 1992, when separate statistics were kept for Ukraine and Russia, Germany trades with Ukraine more than with the aggressor state," Ivashchuk said.
According to the diplomat, trade and economic ties are developing not only between the states, but also at the regional level - through partnerships between cities and states, which contributes to deepening business contacts "on the ground".
Most promising areas:
Ukraine's reconstruction is a key vector for German investment
Energy, including greenenergy
IT and digitalisation
Defence-industrial complex - active cooperation is already developing.
As a reminder: in September 2023, Ukraine has already overtaken Russia in terms of monthly trade turnover with Germany - 840 million euros against 770 million. The basis of Ukrainian exports is food, metals, machinery and equipment.
