At the very least, the AFU should reach the border of occupied Crimea.

Andriy Sibiga, one of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's advisers, said this in an interview with the Financial Times.

He said that Ukraine could discuss the future of Crimea together with Russia only when Ukrainian soldiers reach the borders of the Russian-occupied peninsula.

If we manage to reach our strategic goals on the battlefield and when we are on the administrative border with Crimea, we are ready to open a diplomatic page to discuss this issue. This does not mean that we rule out a path of liberation (of Crimea) by our army.

Journalists note that these are so far the "clearest" statements about negotiations with Russia, since April 2022.

Sibiga's words may also reassure Western officials who fear that the liberation of Crimea by military means will lead to an escalation.

It is worth recalling that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier that peace talks with Russia were ruled out until Russian troops leave the entire territory of Ukraine, including Crimea.
