The next meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine's defence will be held on 12 February, led by the UK, not the US

A new Ramstein meeting will be held on 12 February at NATO Headquarters in Belgium. It will be chaired by the UK for the first time. The new Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth is also planning to attend the meeting. As reported in the Pentagon, the new minister plans to voice Donald Trump's position on the war in Ukraine, and it is to end the war in Ukraine more quickly using diplomacy.

He will also emphasise the need for stronger European leadership in providing security assistance to Ukraine. The US does not rule out that the states could return to chairing meetings of the Contact Group on Ukraine's defence in the future - as they did under the Joe Biden administration.

According to preliminary data, no new aid packages for Ukraine will be announced.

The Pentagon added that on 10 February, Gegseth will begin a week-long visit to Europe, during which he will visit Germany, Belgium and Poland.

We would like to point out that the 26th meeting in the Ramstein format will take place ahead of a meeting of NATO defence ministers to discuss priorities for Ukraine. The Ramstein format was established in the spring of 2022 to coordinate military assistance to Kiev after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The group's meetings have traditionally been chaired by the United States, in particular by U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin
