Portugal's president fainted because of the heat


The president is still to be examined further on Thursday.
Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, 74, fainted while visiting a university near Lisbon. He was hospitalised. As it turned out, the politician felt ill due to the heat. This was reported by the EFE news agency, citing an anonymous source in the president's office.
Marcelo Rebelo de Souza collapsed after visiting the Faculty of Science and Technology," the journalists noted.
He was taken to a hospital in the city of Oeiras. However, he was discharged after an examination.
The politician's tests showed no serious health problems," said a source in the president's office.
At the same time, it is learnt that when he was discharged from the hospital, he was put on a portable device to monitor his heart activity.

Conservative Rebelo de Souza has been president of Portugal since 2016.
De Sousa has had previous health problems. For example, in 2018 he collapsed during a visit to Braga, in 2017 and 2021 he had hernia operations, and in 2019 the president underwent catheterisation, during which doctors identified a number of large coronary blockages in the patient.
