US senators pressure government to deliver F-16s to Ukraine

This is according to Politico. The journalists refer to a letter from eight senators to Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The senators demand more information from the Pentagon on what is needed to send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

After speaking to US, Ukrainian and foreign leaders working in support of Ukraine at the Munich Security Conference last month, we believe the US should carefully consider providing Ukraine with F-16s. This would be a significant assistance that could be a game-changer on the battlefield.

Senators believe that the war between Ukraine and Russia is now at a critical stage. So any help is important. And fighter jets could turn the situation in Ukraine's favour.

The letter was organised by Senator Mark Kelly (R-Arizona). Democrats Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Tim Kaine of Virginia, Martin Heinrich of New Mexico and Jackie Rosen of Nevada also signed the letter, as did Republicans Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Ted Budd of North Carolina.

The senators are working hard to push for the transfer of the fighter jets to Ukraine. But so far the White House, led by Biden, believes that fighter jets are not a pressing need on the field.
