Seafood with a high concentration of Cadmium, which has recently appeared in Ukraine, can deform bones and damage livers.
This was reported by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
It is noted that the dangerous seafood was imported to Ukraine from Lithuania. The manufacturer of this product is the Chinese company Zejiang Zhoufu food Co. LTD, which were exported by the Lithuanian company Plunges kooperatine prekyba. In Ukraine, HIVUNAI-Ukraine LLC is responsible for these products. As it is known, this company represents VICI brand and not only.
High concentration of Cadmium was found in frozen seafood mix.
How is it harmful?
Cadmium is dangerous to the human body and is banned in many European countries.
Cadmium vapour and its compounds with other substances are very toxic. This is due to the substance's ability to bind sulphur-containing enzymes and amino acids.
Symptoms of acute cadmium poisoning include vomiting and seizures. And frequent consumption of cadmium, even in small doses, can lead to impaired bone mineralisation, accompanied by fractures and bone deformities.
In large quantities, cadmium in the body can cause damage to the liver and will contribute to anaemia, cardiopathy and hypertension.
