The United States has filed war crime charges against four Russian military officers who tortured an American man.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor-General of Ukraine.

US Attorney-General Merrick Garland has reported four Russian-affiliated servicemen on suspicion of torture and ill-treatment of an American citizen," the report said.

Four people associated with the Russian Federation kidnapped a US citizen in the village of Milovo in the Kherson region.

According to the investigation, the American was illegally held for 10 days. He was beaten, threatened with sexual violence and murder.

It is noted that this is the first case when foreign jurisdictions are prosecuted for war crimes as a result of Russian aggression. It is also the first prosecution under the U.S. War Crimes Act.

The Office of the Attorney General and the U.S. cooperate on an ongoing basis with information about Russia's international crimes.
