Reason preventing EU from sending promised 1m shells to Ukraine named

The EU Council has decided to provide Ukraine with one billion euros in aid for joint purchases of ammunition and missiles. It was planned that European countries would provide Ukraine with one million shells.
Europe cannot send the promised shells to Ukraine on time. There are several reasons for this, Politico reported.
The publication recalls that in spring it became clear that the Ukrainian defenders needed ammunition. At that time, the EU Council said that it would allocate one billion euros for joint purchases of ammunition and missiles. It was planned that European countries would provide Ukraine with one million shells within a year. However, it proved too difficult for the European military industry to fulfil the promise.
Among the main problems faced by contractors in increasing the production volume, the heads of enterprises name the shortage of personnel and problems with the supply of explosives," the newspaper said.
At the same time, manufacturers note that having overcome objective difficulties, they can increase production.
Politico also recalls that Europe is purchasing weapons for Ukraine abroad, including ammunition.
In addition, a number of countries have signed direct contracts with Kiev for the supply of weapons.
The newspaper noted that Europe intended to continue helping Ukraine. In particular, on Tuesday, the EU countries will consider the possibility of allocating another aid package for Ukraine in the amount of 20bn euros for four years.
