Milli: the war will end in negotiations, no one will achieve their goals

US General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, toldthe Financial Times

Milley has said that the war in Ukraine will end at the negotiating table:

It will be almost impossible for the Russians to achieve their political goals militarily. It's unlikely that Russia will take over Ukraine. It just won't happen. It's also very, very difficult for Ukraine this year to kick the Russians out of every inch of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory. That doesn't mean it can't happen... But it is extremely difficult. And it will require, in fact, the collapse of the Russian army.

General Milly also talked about how Russian aggression should be dealt with:

In this particular case, we are dealing with a large country that has nuclear weapons. So you have to be very, very conscious of managing escalation. At the same time, you have to uphold the principles on which the United Nations was founded and on which the international order is based.

At the same time, Milli noted that aggression must be stopped "by firmness, by deterrence, by military force". According to Milli, this is the lesson from the Second World War.
