Expert tells how the Titanic's passengers felt at the moment of death

The death of the passengers of the Titan bathyscaphe, which was descending towards the Titanic, was instantaneous and they most likely did not feel anything. Northeastern Global News was told this by Arun Bansil, professor of physics at Northeastern University.

He pointed out that the facts indicate that the bathyscaphe exploded. In doing so, the explosion was directed towards the inside of the underwater vessel.

Bansil pointed out that it was due to heavy water pressure on the body of the bathyscaphe, which it could not withstand. He added that it was instantaneous and the people inside did not feel anything.

The implosion (explosion directed inwards - ed.) is very strong. When the hull is torn apart under tremendous external pressure, a large amount of energy is released and the five passengers would have died instantly. They would have felt no pain and would not have realised what had happened," the physicist is convinced.

Speaking about the causes of the tragedy, he suggested that it was due to the material of which the body of the bathyscaphe was made.

The main cause of the tragedy could have been the use of carbon fibres in the construction of the vessel. This is an experimental flaw, as most similar vessels are made of steel, titanium and aluminium," he pointed out.

The physicist agreed that there was some merit in using carbon fibres as it could give more space for passengers, but he stressed that they are poorly studied for use in deep water.

A ship constructed of them could suddenly crack and break," the scientist said.

For its part, the German online publication BILD simulated the moment the Titan exploded.

Recall that on 18 June five passengers embarked on a fateful voyage to the sinking of the Titanic. They each paid $250,000 for the dive. Further communication with them disappeared, and only on 22 June, after many days of searching, lasting almost 80 hours, wreckage of the Titan submersible was found, which, like the famous ship, found its grave at the bottom of the ocean. All the passengers were killed.
