Due to the war in Ukraine, milk may disappear in Poland

In Poland, due to the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, the authorities plan to impose restrictions on the use of energy and gas resources for dairy enterprises. Business Insider writes about it.

Now dairy enterprises are receiving letters from energy and gas suppliers, according to which it is planned to introduce plans to limit the consumption of these utilities to levels that do not allow them to maintain production, storage, internal sewage, and treatment facilities, the Association of Milk Processors of Poland said in a statement.

The central thesis of the appeal of dairy producers is that 2-3 days of problems with energy supply can be costly for producers and lead to a natural disaster.

Milk cannot wait several days to be processed. This will disrupt production processes, leading to a shortage of products on the market and severe financial losses for factories. Do not forget that at the same time, farmers also suffer losses because raw materials will not be taken from them. Then the problem arises, what to do with so much unused milk, and how to dispose of it? We are afraid that the consequences of such a situation for the natural environment can be terrifying, the Association reports.

The Association offers its solution to the problem and has proposed to make several changes to government regulations.

Realizing the seriousness of the situation, especially in connection with the war in Ukraine, we, along with other industry organizations, proposed to amend the rules set out in the Council of Ministers' resolutions on determining the amount of energy supplied to factories, in case of a need to reduce supplies. Changing these rules would help in a crisis to maintain production at a level that guarantees the food security of the country and the welfare of animals, - comments the president of the Association, Marcin Gidzhik.

Marcin Gidzhik also said that the government has not yet made any comments.
