Why scrubs don't work for black spots on the face

Black dots on your face are not dirt, but oxidised tyrosine in your pores.

How do black spots form?

Comedones - these "black dots" - appear in places where sebum and keratinised cells accumulate, forming a dense dark "top". The dark colour is due to the oxidation of tyrosine in the skin, not dirt. No matter how much you rub with a scrub, you can not get rid of such points completely, if you do not eliminate the root cause from the inside.

The main causes

  1. Amount of sebum
The adult body produces about 20 grams of sebum per day. If this figure is seriously exceeded, for example due to hormonal disruptions, the likelihood of clogged pores increases.

  2. Changes in the quality of sebum
When sebum becomes more viscous, it is not able to escape to the surface of the skin unhindered. This is most often due to digestive problems or an unbalanced diet. As a result, sebum gets stuck, oxidises and 'black spots' appear.

Simply put, if you have increased sebum production, it's worth checking your hormones. And when the very structure of sebum changes - a signal to pay attention to the gastrointestinal tract and diet.

How to fight it?

  1. Nutrition is most important
Black spots themselves are often caused by an improper diet. The body may not receive the substances it needs or, conversely, overloaded with certain products that provoke the release of thick sebum.

  2. Interim removal measures
While you adjust your diet (preferably together with a specialist), you can temporarily "clean" the pores:

    • Oils and clay masks help "draw out" trapped sebum.
    • Products with salicylic acid effectively dissolve fat and unclog pores (unlike water-soluble acids, which won't work here).
  3. Brightening products
Vitamin C, arbutin or folic acid can lighten oxidised pigment, making the black spot less noticeable.

Key takeaway

Black spot is not elementary "dirt", which can be removed with a hard scrubbing, but the result of sebaceous gland dysfunction and unbalanced diet. Try to revise your diet, check the hormonal background and gastrointestinal tract. Then temporary care products will really give a more permanent effect.
