Iryna Vereshchuk reacted to Putin's decree on passportization in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories and advised residents not to take Russian documents.

The Vice Prime Minister, Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories wrote this in Telegram.

If they want to deport from the TOT Ukrainians who do not want to take Russian passports, there is no problem. Because the Russians themselves do not let the Ukrainians out of the TOT into the controlled territory. Today, the Ministry of Reintegration has once again appealed to the Russian side and the International Committee of the Red Cross to open humanitarian corridors so that Ukrainians from the WTO can leave for government-controlled territory," Vereshchuk wrote.

According to her, Ukrainians should not take Russian passports, should not work with the occupiers and leave if possible.

We shall remind you that Putin signed a decree according to which Ukrainians on the TOT who refuse passports will be considered foreigners. Thus anyone who fails to obtain a Russian document by 1 July 2024 may be deported.

Human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, on the contrary, advises Ukrainians to take a Russian passport, for their own safety.

Still decide for yourself to survive. This is the most important thing. We understand that this is happening under pressure," he said on air of Telethon on 30 April.

According to the ombudsman, the government is now working on a draft law that will regulate the official rejection of the Russian passport.
