The other day, the State Migration Service said that some Ukrainians had had their passports cancelled because of different transliteration. But this decision has now been annulled.

This was announced by the head of the State Migration Service, Nataliya Naumenko, according to politician Roman Babiy.

It is noted that all passports whose validity was revoked will be renewed.

At the moment, about 34,000 Ukrainians have passports with different transliteration. This causes problems abroad - some misuse different transliterations to circumvent restrictions on staying abroad and receiving assistance. Because if on paper (or in an electronic database) a different spelling of the name means that it is not the same person.

By cancelling passports with different transliteration, they wanted to solve the problem. But the government decided to tackle it in a different way - by encouraging Ukrainians to change their passports themselves.
