The Russians are defending Kremenna, as its de-occupation would open the way for the Ukrainian armed forces to reach other industrial centres in Donbass.

This was reported by the New York Times.

According to US journalists, the Ukrainian military is approaching the liberation of Kreminna in Luhansk Region, the deoccupation of the city will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to control the main roads to Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, which are the industrial centres of Donbas.

Kreminna is the gateway to two much larger cities nearby, Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, important industrial centres of Donbas. The capture of the city and other nearby settlements will expand the bridgehead for Ukrainian troops in the region and give them control over the main roads leading to Severodonetsk and Lysychansk.

According to the publication, fighting was already taking place around the city on Tuesday, with the Russians desperately trying to defend the populated area that they had struggled so hard to capture. After a series of retreats, the Russian military reinforced their positions near Kreminna with defensive barriers.
