Experts from the American Institute for War Studies have analysed geolocation data of Russian "war correspondents" and bloggers.

Ukrainian armed forces have probably taken up positions on the Dnieper bank north of the town of Alyoshki (about 7km south-west of Kherson), advanced to its outskirts and taken control of some islands south-west of Kherson. This is stated in the ISW report .

The analysts said that they based their conclusions on geolocation data provided by Russian military correspondents. Those confirm that the Ukrainian Armed Forces might have taken positions on the left bank of the Kherson region.

Geolocation footage published by the Russian Federation on 22 April shows that Ukrainian forces took positions on the Dnieper bank north of Oleshek (7km southwest of Kherson) and advanced to the northern outskirts of the settlement on the E97 highway, as well as west of Dacha (10km south of Kherson)," the report says.

In addition, that Russian troops may not control the islands on the Konka and Chaika rivers, near the Antonovskyi bridge.

The institute noted that on 20 and 22 April, Russian "war correspondents" reported that Ukrainians had fortified on the eastern coast of Kherson Region, established stable supply lines to their positions and regularly carried out sorties, indicating "no Russian control over this area".

The institute noted that the scale and intentions of Ukrainian forces in the south remain unclear, as does Ukraine's ability and readiness to hold a sustained position in the area.

The OC Yug did not deny but did not confirm the information about the probable move of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the left bank of the Kherson region.

when the front line runs along a wide powerful river like the Dnieper, overcoming such an obstacle is a very difficult job. That is why even the best students of the Institute for the Study of War need to be patient," said Anna Malyar.
