Russia has launched a massive attack on Kyiv: high-rise buildings have been destroyed and the death toll continues to rise

Throughout the night of 6 July, Russia launched a massive barrage of missiles and drones at Kyiv. The attack caused widespread destruction and fires in the capital; there have been fatalities and a very large number of casualties.
As of 8.00 am, 10 people are known to have died and 46 injured in Kyiv, including five children. This was reported by UNIAN, citing Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration.
Unfortunately, the death toll is not yet final, as work to clear the rubble and rescue people is ongoing.
“Clean-up operations are continuing at more than 20 locations. The situation is most critical in the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts, where the Russians have directly targeted residential high-rise blocks,” Tkachenko noted.

Meanwhile, the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, has reported 11 fatalities.
One injured man died in hospital this morning. Of those affected, 27 people were admitted to hospital, including three children.
Klitschko noted that destruction and damage had been recorded in four districts of the city, with the Podil district being the worst affected; high-rise residential blocks were also hit in the Darnytskyi district.

In the capital, several high-rise buildings in various districts have been partially destroyed; according to rescue workers, people are still trapped under the rubble.
According to the State Emergency Service, a two-storey residential building in the Podilskyi district was struck by a missile; floors 9 to 5 have been destroyed, and the rescue operation is ongoing.
Elsewhere in the same district, the roof of a 19-storey building has been partially destroyed, cars are on fire in the courtyard of a residential block, and debris has been reported to have fallen from the 16th floor of a 25-storey residential block.

In addition, the 2nd to 5th floors of a 21-storey residential block have collapsed; the search for victims is ongoing.
In the Darnytskyi district, within a residential complex, debris fell onto the 4th floor of one of the 25-storey blocks, whilst in another, a fire broke out in flats covering an area of 150 square metres.
At another address, a fire broke out on floors 23 to 25 of a 30-storey residential block after debris struck the building.
In the Holosiivskyi district, according to preliminary reports, a non-residential building is on fire as a result of the attack.
