Putin's mobilization has increased social inequality in Russia
The Kremlin is more likely to mobilize the poor and ethnic minorities.
This is reported by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
They believe that Putin's partial mobilization is causing social rifts. This further marginalizes ethnic minority communities.
The Kremlin thus uses the poor and minorities to bear the brunt of force-building efforts while protecting ethnic Russians and wealthier citizens of Russia.
They also cite as an example the recent shooting at a training ground in the Belgorod region, when a dozen Russian soldiers were killed. Russian sources blamed the shooting on two ethnically Tajik citizens of Russia who were forcibly mobilized. The Russian information space reacted to a large extent with furious xenophobic rhetoric against migrants from Central Asia and other peripheral social groups.
Some State Duma deputies even called for a moratorium on granting Russian citizenship to citizens of Tajikistan
