Special operation "Spear" was conducted in Stockholm to apprehend espionage suspects.

The Swedish Security Police press office reports:

Special units of law enforcers landed from helicopters on the roof of an apartment building and then suddenly stormed the suspects' flat by descending to it from above. The operation resulted in the arrest of a married couple from Russia suspected of espionage. The assault was deemed necessary so that the suspects would not have time to destroy evidence.

The police said that the arrested men were suspected of committing illegal intelligence activities against Sweden and another country. The husband is suspected of spying for Russia, his wife is suspected of complicity. According to the investigation, the couple's espionage activities have been traced since January 2013.
