Their morale is not very high - US General Mark Milley on the Russian Army

The offensive of the AFU will be long, but the Russian troops have already suffered huge losses. This was stated by the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley.
An interview with General Mark Milley was published by The Washington Post.
According to Milley, Russian troops are in a rather bad state, they have already suffered huge losses.
Their morale is not very high. <...> At the strategic level, there is clearly a lot of controversy among the leadership. Logistics is not in the best condition. So the Russians are still on the defensive," the US general said.
Milley recalled that a couple of months ago he said that the counter-offensive of the AFU would be long, bloody and slow. Milley clarified that this is exactly what is happening now, but in general Ukraine is fighting and fighting very hard.
When asked about victory, Milli said that for Ukraine, this war is an existential struggle for survival. But for other parts of Europe and the world, as well as the US, it is about keeping international rules in place.
It is a long, very difficult war with heavy casualties that is ongoing. It is possible to achieve these goals by military means. It's going to take a long, long time, but it's also possible to achieve those goals, perhaps through some diplomatic means," said Mark Milley.
General Milley did not comment on "any future developments, ongoing negotiations or anything like that." He stated that "this counter-offensive has not yet exhausted itself. So we'll have to see how it ends and then move on."
