Ukraine has information that Russia is going to harm Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

President Vladimir Zelensky said this in an evening video message.

If the Russians really seriously wanted the war to end, they would focus on diplomacy, not on missile attacks, not on blackouts and attempts to damage even our nuclear plants. We have data on the sites that Russia was doing reconnaissance on, reconnaissance for strikes. Everything clearly shows that diplomacy is definitely not a priority for Russia," UNIAN quoted the president as saying.

Zelenskyy noted that the Ukrainian side was informing the USA about what was happening in Ukraine, as well as Russia's constant strikes on Ukraine's energy system.

Zelenskyy added that the occupiers had been attacking Naftohaz facilities in different regions of Ukraine all week. He specified that the last strike occurred yesterday and it was on gas production.

As Socialportal wrote, the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported that Russia is studying options for strikes on electricity transmission substations that ensure the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. The intelligence agency believes that this is how the Russians want to force Ukraine to sign unacceptable surrender demands to end the war.

The GUR noted that by destroying or disabling the said substations, the Russian Federation seeks to disconnect the nuclear power units from the united energy system of Ukraine so that civilian Ukrainians would be completely left without light and heat.

As of mid-January 2025, the occupiers have conducted reconnaissance of 10 relevant critical facilities in nine regions of Ukraine. The Kremlin's intentions to attack substations in order to destroy generation at Ukraine's nuclear power plants in this hybrid way once again testify to the genocidal nature of Russia's war against Ukraine, the GSD believes.
