A street in Nizhyn, in the Chernihiv region, has been renamed in honour of the deceased Ukrainian hero Oleksandr Matsiyevskyy.

This was announced by the mayor of Nizhyn Oleksandr Kodola.

This decision was taken today during a session of the Nizhyn City Council.

The name of Alexander Matsiyevsky, who was executed by the Russian invaders, will be worn by the street that was called the 3rd microdistrict.

This decision was preceded by our long conversation with the mother of the dead hero. Various options for perpetuating his memory at the town level were discussed. One of the options was renaming one of the city's central streets in honour of the deceased," the mayor said.

Kodola also said that last year 5 streets in Nizhyn were renamed in honour of the fallen defenders. And given that the war continues and the community continues to lose its defenders, the working group decided to suspend the process of renaming the streets until the war is over.
