In 2023, the UN will provide life-saving primary health care to more than 5.1 million children and mothers.

More than 600 little Ukrainians have been killed and more than 1,420 injured since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, the real figures are probably higher, the UN Office in Ukraine said in a statement issued to mark International Children's Day.

Most children were killed and injured in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhya and Mykolayiv regions. In addition, more than 1,500 children have been maimed because of the fighting.

However, children suffer not only physically. For example, within two years after the start of the full-scale invasion, children from frontline settlements spent 3,000 to 5,000 hours in bomb shelters, i.e. 4-7 months, which causes stress and seriously worsens their lives.

The forced displacement of children also increases the risks they face, including experiencing family separation, trafficking, exploitation and violence, resulting in psychological trauma and stress.

It is reported that the United Nations, together with its partners, continues to assist children in Ukraine. For example, in 2023, the UN provided life-saving primary health care to more than 5.1 million children and mothers, and education services to more than 2.5 million children and teachers.
