Today is the anniversary of the start of the Second World War. Sibiga recalled attempts to please the aggressor

Today, 1 September, on the anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War, it is important to recall its terrible lessons for humanity.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stressed that these events were preceded by attempts to appease the aggressor. The foreign minister urged not to make the same mistake now, when the fate of the world and the Russian-Ukrainian war is being decided.
"On this day in 1939, Hitler attacked Poland, and Stalin soon joined him, which started the Second World War, the bloodiest war in history. Today it is crucial to remember what came before that day: weakness and the naive belief that territorial concessions would 'please' the aggressor," Sibiga writes in his account X.
The Nazi Third Reich bears full responsibility for World War II.
"But there were also those who allowed this evil to grow stronger - avoiding difficult decisions, choosing weakness over strength and favouring wishful thinking over realistic strategies," Sibiga said.
The Foreign Minister called for unity among allies and pressure on the aggressor - Russia. He noted that support for Ukraine is critical for peace and security in all of Europe.
The best way to honour the tens of millions of people who died in the Second World War is to prevent the same mistakes from happening again, he concluded.
