117 people suffered, among them 15 children. We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. This is an irretrievable loss for the whole country, - noted in the State Emergency Service.
The Ministry of Health reported that 34 people were hospitalised, 10 of them in serious condition.
The office of the Prosecutor General specified that Russian troops launched two strikes on the city centre at around 10:15 on 13 April.
It has been established that Russian calculations of the 112 and 448 missile brigades attacked Sumy with two Iskander-M/KN-23-type ballistic missiles, the head of the Defence Ministry's GSD, Kirill Budanov, said. According to him, the attack was from the territory of Russia's Voronezh and Kursk regions.
The head of the Sumy MIA, Serhiy Krivosheenko, said that it was the repeated ballistic missile strike that led to a large number of casualties and injuries.
He noted that the second missile was most likely equipped with fragmentation elements and exploded in the air to cause maximum damage to people on the streets of the city. According to preliminary reports, it was these impactors that killed most of the victims.
The explosion occurred about 200 metres from the first hit, in the area of residential houses, educational institutions and shops.
Emergency services, law enforcement agencies and specialists continue to work on the site.
