Canadian authorities have shown for the first time an image of an unidentified aerial object (UAP #23) shot down by a U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor fighter jet over the sparsely populated Yukon region in February 2023.

The object was one of three unidentified objects shot down in North American airspace in a matter of days.

The image of the object was published by CTV News and has sparked renewed interest in the topic of unidentified aerial phenomena, previously referred to as UFOs. UAP #23 was shot down on 11 February 2023, just two days after a similar object - UAP #20 - was destroyed over the Alaskan coast. Another object was shot down on 12 February over Lake Huron in the US.

The image shows that UAP #23 is cylindrical in shape, and it was likely a small partially metal balloon carrying cargo. However, the exact details of what kind of object it was and what purpose it was used for have not been disclosed to the media.

Interestingly, the photo was approved for publication shortly after the incident, but authorities later decided not to release it, fearing that it might raise more questions and speculation. It wasn't until 18 months later that the documents and photo became available to the public.

Although investigations continued, search operations to recover the wreckage of the object were halted due to difficult winter conditions in the remote area. US President Joe Biden later stated that the objects were probably not a threat and could have been private or research balloons. Nevertheless, the lack of information and images continues to fuel various theories and speculation about the nature of these objects.

The term "UAP" (Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon) was introduced by US and Canadian authorities to refer to such objects that cannot be immediately identified to avoid UFO-related speculation.
