Starmer names condition for sending British troops to Ukraine

The United States has backed a broad coalition of Ukraine's allies, which includes Britain.
Any possible deployment of British troops to Ukraine must be approved by the UK parliament. This was stated by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, commenting on the declaration signed by London together with France and Ukraine, Reuters has reported.
According to the head of the British government, no military decisions will be taken without the consent of lawmakers.
I will keep the House informed about the development of the situation, and if there is a need to deploy troops within the framework of the signed declaration, this issue will be put to a vote," Starmer emphasised.
The Prime Minister also noted that the size of the possible contingent has not yet been determined and will depend on the military plans of Great Britain, which are currently under development.
Separately, Starmer spoke about contacts with Washington. According to him, during the Christmas period he twice communicated with US President Donald Trump on the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine. The British Prime Minister assured that London would not take any steps without a full and detailed discussion with the American side.
Starmer's statement came a day after the United States confirmed support for a broad coalition of Ukraine's allies, which includes the UK. Washington pledged to provide security guarantees to support Ukraine in the event of another attack by Russia.
