Many children are forced to live in boarding schools, even with parents, because of the difficulty of accessing schools.

There are about 70,000 children deprived of parental care, orphans and children removed from their parents in Ukraine at the moment. This was reported by Social Policy Minister Oksana Zholnovych in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to the minister, the majority of such children are raised by relatives, and about 23 per cent of orphans are in foster families or family-type children's homes. Finally, 5.5 thousand orphans in Ukraine are on the Internet.

Many of them, unfortunately, have disabilities, so we are looking for foster families for them to take them out of these institutions," Zholnovych said.

The head of the department also drew attention to the fact that in Ukraine there is a category of children who have parents and are brought up in boarding schools. According to her, there are about 20 thousand such children in our country.

Someone gets into a boarding school because of poverty, someone is unable to receive education at home because of disability or special educational needs, - she explained.

Zholnovich stressed that the state has a task to make communication of such children closer to the family. In particular, to develop a network of different educational institutions closer to families or to provide transport to them.

We shall remind you that Ukraine has an online service "Adoption: registration by a candidate". It can be used on the portal "Dia". The service allows you to submit an application and download all the necessary documents.
