Factors influencing the early appearance of grey hair have been identified

Sejin is one of the most common age-related processes along with hair thinning.

This is due to the gradual loss of melanin, the pigment responsible for hair colour. According to experts, this process is inevitable, but in some cases it can be noticeably slowed down.

"Grey hair is not just a change in colour. The loss of melanin also affects the structure of the hair, making it stiffer and drier," explains trichologist and stylist Tiffany Nicole.

For a long time, it was believed that the main cause of grey hair was heredity. However, modern evidence shows that genetics is only part of the picture. Experts say that chronic inflammation of the scalp, oxidative stress, nutrient deficiencies, and lifestyle can accelerate the rate of greying.

According to trichologist Jay Small, only one gene is directly linked to grey hair, and the influence of family history often reflects common habits - nutrition, stress levels, smoking or sun exposure.

Experts stress that it is impossible to completely reverse grey hair: if the hair has completely lost pigment, it is impossible to restore its colour. However, at the stage of partial loss of melanin, the process can be slowed down.

Which, according to experts, can help to keep hair colour longer:

Nutritional correction.
A diet with sufficient vitamin B12, folic acid, copper and zinc can support melanin production. That said, experts recommend reducing your intake of ultra-processed foods that increase oxidative stress.

Taking supplements for deficiencies.
Since the body primarily directs nutrients to vital organs, the hair receives them on a residual basis. In individual cases, experts allow the use of supplements, especially those containing copper and B vitamins - but only against the background of a balanced diet.

Protection from ultraviolet light.
Exposure to the sun accelerates changes in both skin and hair. Experts advise protecting the scalp - with hats or special products with UV filters.

Revise your hair care routine.
Using gentle cleansers, anti-inflammatory ingredients and moisturising formulas can keep hair follicles healthy and slow down the yellowing and dryness of grey hair.

Avoiding early colouring.
According to experts, frequent colouring in the early stages can put additional stress on the scalp and accelerate the appearance of new grey hair.

Healthy lifestyle.
Smoking, alcohol abuse, chronic sleep deprivation and high stress levels have been linked to premature greying. Maintaining your overall health helps you retain your natural hair colour for longer.

Experts emphasise that there is no one-size-fits-all prescription and that greying remains a natural biological process. However, avoiding bad habits and taking care of your health can significantly delay its appearance.
