The European Parliament urged the international court in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

This was reported by Ukrayinska Pravda with a reference to the press service of the European Parliament.

The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee has prepared a report on the EU's relations with Belarus. The MPs believe that Belarus is involved in crimes in Ukraine and should be held responsible. Among other things, for the illegal export of Ukrainian children.

The report calls on the EU institutions and member states to take all necessary measures at the international level to make it possible to prosecute Belarusian political and military leaders responsible for crimes against humanity and genocide," reads the report.

The deputies believe that the International Criminal Court should consider the possibility of issuing an arrest warrant for Lukashenko, as similar warrants were previously issued for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova.

In addition, the European Parliament believes that the list of sanctions against Russians and citizens of Belarus, who took part in the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, should be expanded.

We will remind, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin and Lyuvova-Belova in March 2023. After this decision, 123 countries-participants of the Rome Statute are obliged to arrest the criminals and hand them over to the court, if they will be on the territory of these countries.
