Dalia Grybauskaite urged to destroy terrorists
She said that many years ago she decided that Lithuania would not buy gas from Russia.
Former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite recalled Putin's "humiliating" demands that pushed her country toward energy independence from Russia. She spoke about this on the air of the United Marathon.
She said that a single meeting with then Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during the economic crisis in 2010 made her understand that she needed to act. Then in the country, according to her, the price of gas was 40% more expensive than the price of Germany. And instead of negotiations, then Putin presented Lithuania with lists of demands that, according to Grybauskaite, were humiliating.
There, it was only about the requirements for the country, such as stopping discussions in arbitration regarding prices, building a common nuclear power plant, and so on, the politician recalled.
She noted that other countries that are very dependent on Russian gas will have to move away from energy carriers for at least 2-3 years. In addition, she notes that other countries did not have such grounds as Leaf had to start this path faster.
We were closer and we were treated more harshly and we did not bribe,” Grybauskaite said.
At the same time, she advised European leaders to stop being afraid of Putin, and the war in Ukraine should show them that Putin must be fought.
Terrorists cannot be feared, terrorists must be fought, they must be destroyed,” she noted.
