Bulgarian President Roumen Radev has vetoed a bill adopted by parliament on the supply of armoured carriers to Ukraine.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has returned the law on ratification of the agreement under which Bulgaria provides Ukraine with armoured transport equipment free of charge to parliament for a new discussion. This was reported by NOVA.

In the reasons for the veto it was noted that the people's elected representatives were not familiar enough with the specific parameters of the donation, which does not allow them to objectively assess whether the provided equipment is not more necessary for Bulgaria," the report said.

The Bulgarian President stressed that the armoured all-terrain transport equipment provided to Ukraine could be used to protect the Bulgarian border and help the population in case of natural disasters and accidents, including in hard-to-reach areas.

I am guided by the conviction that the safety, health and life of Bulgarian citizens should be the top priority," Rumen Radev said.

He said that the examples of floods in Karlovo and Tsarevo are still fresh. The cases when the services for the protection of the population will face such challenges will become more frequent and this makes it necessary to strengthen them, not weaken them.
